On January 22, 2015, “The Bronze” will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival’s opening night. The film festival is one of the largest events of its kind in America and draws over 50,000 movie enthusiasts to Utah each year. So if the word hasn’t gotten out about how great Amherst, Ohio is as a filming location or as just a great place to live, it soon will be at the festival and later in 2015 thru an anticipated worldwide release of this film. Rumor has it that the movie may also be shown at the Amherst Cinema as part of the film’s release.
Recently, a film crew was spotted outside of the Captain’s Club grabbing a few evening shots for the film. Along with the Captain’s Club, Cedar Pub and Ziggy’s Pub (Picture courtesy of sidewalkschalk.com), pictured to the left, were involved in the filming too. Other filming locations in and around Amherst included Hastee Tastee, Marion L. Steele High School, and a home on Brandt Avenue as well as the Pikewood Manor in Elyria and some gymnastics scenes shot at the Sokol Ceska Sin in Cleveland.
The movie is about a former gymnastics’ hero, who won an Olympic bronze medal and now finds herself living in her small hometown, washed-up and bitter. She is forced to reevaluate her life when a promising young gymnast threatens her local celebrity status.
“The Bronze” is directed by Bryan Buckley and written by Melissa Rauch and Winston Rauch. Along with Melissa Rauch, the movie stars Gary Cole, Thomas Middleditch, Sebastian Stan, Cecily Strong, and Haley Lu Richardson. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions acquired the rights for this movie in July 2014.
